Winter Folk Camp
March 5-8 2010
Winter Folk Camp II March 5-8, 2010 The Haliburton County Folk Society invites you to join us in a long weekend, one of a kind Folk Music experience for adults in the Haliburton Highlands. Building on the success of this year’s Winter Folk Camp (WFC), our second Camp has been extended by one day. WFC is again being held at YMCA Wanakita near Haliburton, Ontario and is intended to be a late winter, affordable get-away. There is lots of music (concerts, classes, workshops, song circles, jamming and so on) in pleasant wooded surroundings. The circumstances and camaraderie are convivial, the accommodations comfortable and the meals are delicious and nutritious. The program has been designed to engage novice players, more experienced musicians as well as interested, but not particularly musical, Folk Music devotees. The dates are Friday evening, March 5 to Monday afternoon, March 8, 2010. Once again we will offer an “all inclusive” option (accommodation, meals and snacks, all programming including the ceilidhs, complimentary outdoor activities, yoga classes etc.) and a “semi-inclusive” (no accommodation) option. Tickets will also be available for the Saturday and Sunday evening ceilidhs. We have engaged a group of talented and committed musicians who share our passion for providing our guests with the best musical experience we can. Their involvement in the camp extends beyond their classes, workshops and concerts and they look forward to sharing their time at Camp with you. “Artists in Residence” Rodrigo Chavez – Latin percussion and movement Eve Goldberg - beginner guitar Paul Mills (aka Curly Boy Stubbs) – advanced guitar Linda Morrison – community choir Ian Tamblyn – songwriting Cindy Thompson-Butineau – fiddle The website www.winterfolkcamp.com includes artist profiles, program description, accommodation description, registration information etc. An “early bird” rate is offered for registrations prior to January 15th, 2010. This also adds your name for a draw on a wonderful 1 day experiential tour for 2, generously donated by “Yours Outdoors”.

Around the Frayed Edges
March 18-31 2010
Exhibition is on display from March 18 through May 29. This exhibition delves into the outer edges of fibre arts. Fibre arts is a style of fine arts made with textiles and is more concerned with creativity and skill in the end product than functionality. In Around the Frayed Edges a narration will be spun through work that pushes the confines as to what an artist can do with fibre today. Twenty-seven fibre artists from across North America have created works for this exhibition. From sculptural to painterly to installations this leading edge exhibition addresses all of the visual arts elements – all in fibre. Curated by Laurie Carmount
